Sustainable Environment for School of Public Health
This project relocated offices for the School of Public Health from Warren Hall to University Hall. The renovation scope included offices, conference rooms, and a kitchenette; restrooms upgrades; and creation of a new lactation room. Efforts were made to replace existing materials with sustainable materials.
The project architects implemented the renovations using an environmentally responsive approach that combined traditional building principles with new ideas and technologies to create spaces which are healthy while being energy and resource efficient.
Green building highlights included:
- Re-cycling demolished building materials
- Re-use of existing cabinetry from Warren Hall;
- Daylighting: Re-use of existing windows to share daylight with an interior open office;
- Recycled content in the following materials:
- Gypsum Board: 36% min re-cycle content with 100% re-cycle paper facing;
- Acoustic Insulation: 100% pre- and post consumer glass fiberglass
- Steel Door Frames: 50% min. re-cycle content;
- Countertops: 100% post-consumer re-cycled paper;
- Flooring:
- Rubber base and linoleum tile: 100% rapidly renewable;
- Carpet: 86% re-cycle content yarn, 100% re-cycle backing;
- VOC-free sealants, paint and adhesives
- New cabinetry: 100% FSC certified maple hardwood plywood (non-urea formaldehyde);
- Lighting:
- Re-use of existing lighting: re-lamp and re-ballast 100% fluorescent fixtures;
New lighting: 100% fluorescent fixtures
